The program part ‘Competitions' will bring two novelties during this year`s festival. Besides the Competition of Feature Films the festival will also offer Competition of Documentary Films and Competition of Short Films. The aim of the festival is to fill up the empty space in Slovak distribution, to present the best of the international documentary works, and also give space to young talents.
This year was FESPACO year, the festival was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Fasofrom February 28 to March 7, 2009. The Golden Yennenga Stallion went to "Teza"by Haile Gerima and the Silver Yennenga Stallion was awarded to "Nothing butthe Truth" by internationally recognized, multiple award-winningSouth African actor/director John Kani.
2009 Nihilist Film Fest Comes to Echo Park Film Center - For the eleventh year, the Nihilist Cultural Foundation presents the Nihilist International Film Festival. This year's evening of films will be presented at the Echo Park Film Center. The show will start at 7:30 pm on Sunday, December 20. The festival includes two hours of short films from around the country and around the world. The films range from troubling to hilarious, from profound to completely silly. Pretty much, something for everyone (except children and clergy).

As our festival run with Butterflies ended, we were wondering if you would like to hear about the experiences we had at different film festivals.
We have found that some festivals and festival organizers are really helpful and there for indie filmmakers, and some other ones only care about the submission fee money.
Would you be interested in hearing about the festivals we attended?
This was the third year for this “film festival” and we should have known better and save ourselves the $60 submission fee.
Upon receiving the acceptance letter, we were also informed, that if we are planning to make the journey to Montana for this film-festival, we should absolutely contact the festival organizers. I have tried this for over 3 weeks without an email or phone call response. Again, we should have known ….

News from Paso Digital Film Festival- Just South and Sideways of Sundance in the Cowboy Wine Country town of Paso Robles, California, promoter Benford Standley is bringing back his unique independent film festival for a second-year run. The 7th edition of Amal ended last Saturday 31st October in the Teatro Principal with a closing ceremony in which the winners were awarded. The event was the highlight of nine days of cinema, dialogue and tolerance in the heart of Santiago de Compostela. Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film drew (a record) 34,200 visitors - The 52nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film has closed with a new audience record: 34,200 visitors saw 330 productions in twelve cinemas, attended the industry events and took part in intensive discussions about the presented works as well as the future of documentary and animated film.
In comparison to 2008, when 28,000 visitors came to the festival, DOK Leipzig can, therefore, report an increase of 22 percent. With this number, even the final visitor figure of the 50th anniversary festival in 2007 (31,000) was significantly topped.
